Islamic civilisation began with the command “Read!”. The first word of the first revelation heralded the deep relationship this faith has with knowledge. But that relationship is not simply about accumulating information.
Beneficial knowledge
The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to seek refuge in God from knowledge that does not benefit. Beneficial knowledge brings a person closer to their Lord, beautifies their character and reaches those around them as goodness.
The weight of knowing
The more we learn, the greater our responsibility. One who stays silent though they know, or does not live by what they know, turns knowledge into an ornament. Knowledge, however, is a lamp that guides the one who carries it.
That is why in our work we value reading, discussion and putting what we learn into practice together. Knowledge and action are like the two wings of a bird.
